Forget it man, just forget about it

Ah yes so I didn’t post last night and dang, that really throws a hex in the routine. See last night was the first ever Wednesday Night Club and I was far too tallywacked to sit down at a computer. In fact, I was too tallied to sit down anywhere. When it came time to throw in the towel, horizontal was the only position I could take and it happened to be on the couch and I didn’t realize it until it was three thirty in the morning when some man arrested me from my dreams with pleas about a product of some sort, a product whose surely dazzling capabilities I may never understand.
Even before diving into the couch writing would have been impossible as I was too razzed even to type. See there was just too much to get excited about. Between the possibility of Burning Man, seeing Spinto open for We Are Scientists, and my special moment with Steve, focus was beyond the realm of possibilities. Last night’s playlist grew from a very special time and place and it ended up bringing me and Steve together the way two hetero lifemates should be. The playlist was, in order, an exact copy of a piece of paper I had written songs on at least six months ago. The piece of paper came from a time when Musicmatch was not functioning and I was forced to listen to internet radio at work. I listened to Radio Nigel, or Not That 80s!, and heard the best alternative 80s songs of the era. When that got a little too peppy, I turned on Indie Pop Rocks, which happened to play both Spinto and We Are Scientists regularly, a nice perk. Towards the bottom of the piece of paper was Razorlight – Rip it Up. At the time I had no idea whether or not this had come from Nigel or Pop Rocks, but Steve knew.
When it came on, he exclaimed, “you like Razorlight?” To which I replied, “huh?” Steve took the opportunity to explain that the song we were listening to was in fact Razorlight and that he’d had the CD in our bathroom for months. We both realized in one glorious moment that we both liked the same song, high fived, and made eyes at each other. Of course, spectators requested that we explain ourselves, which forced us to acknowledge the conflict and before we knew it we were right back at it again. I just don’t see how Joy Division doesn’t play a role in the music Steve likes. I won’t say that they wouldn’t be there without Joy Division, because that concept is dead to me, beaten into the ground by the Nirvana minions who claim that rock wouldn’t be rock as we know it without Nirvana, which to me is pure mortadella.
Steve and I did see U2 together, but to me that band exists outside of our rivalry and in a rivalry of its own. Their greatness envelopes every Razorlight and Razorlight clone past and present on both Nigel and Pop Rocks (although Nigel would occasionally play U2, and I wouldn’t go so far as to claim that U2 envelopes itself). So, yes, too much going on, too much razzing, no can write.

Please elaborate on Wednesday Night Club. We have what could be a sister venture here in NYC called Wednesday Friendsday and there could be potential for a competition.
in boston, we have what is known as wednesday night dinner on thursday, or wndot (pronounced "win-dot") to those who participate. it all started back when i graduated college- my friends gary and jeff and i would get together to make dinner, drink cheap wine and smoke pot every wednesday night. which, of course, meant lots of hung-over thursday mornings. that sort of debauchery seems do-able only to those who have recently graduated and thus, have no qualms with drunkedness on a weeknight. this group eventually expanded, and was finally moved to thursdays, which were more convienent for most, and also allowed for hung-over fridays, which seem to be somewhat more workplace-acceptable. however, somehow the wednesday night dinner name stuck, and what we fondly call wednesday night dinner on thursday was born.
i still miss those drunken wednesday nights...
dude this is all awesome. i'm all stoked on weds night club. it's just a wee gathering of people who want to have fun on a wednesday night. our inaugural wednesday was a small group, we had a ton of fun, a lot of laughs, some cereal, and we'll be doing it next week. i expect it to take off. we should be sister clubs with weds friends and with wndot. cheers to wednesday. maybe we'll have to start a group blog for people obsessed with wednesday. or with other things too.
